What are ACT & SAT tests?
The ACT (American College Testing) and SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) are standardized tests commonly used in the United States as part of the college admissions process. These tests assess a student’s knowledge and skills in areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, and science reasoning.
Many colleges and universities in the United States accept either the ACT or SAT for admissions purposes. These tests are designed to provide a standardized measure of a student’s academic abilities and help colleges evaluate applicants on a level playing field.
Students typically take the ACT or SAT during their high school years, often in their junior or senior year. The scores they receive can be submitted as part of their college applications and are considered alongside other factors like GPA, extracurricular activities, essays, and recommendation letters.
Preparing for the ACT or SAT often involves studying test content, practicing with sample questions, and familiarizing oneself with the test format. Many students also choose to take prep courses or work with tutors to improve their performance on these exams.
Why are ACT/SAT tests important?
ACT and SAT tests are important because they allow colleges to compare applicants on an equal basis, regardless of their educational background or school grading system. These tests play a crucial role in college admissions, with many institutions requiring or strongly considering ACT/SAT scores as part of the application process. The scores help admissions committees evaluate a student’s readiness for college-level work. High ACT/SAT scores can enhance scholarship opportunities, increasing the likelihood of receiving merit-based financial aid and scholarships, which can significantly alleviate the cost of pursuing higher education. ACT and SAT tests encourage students to review and consolidate their knowledge in core subjects, helping them develop critical thinking skills and overall academic preparedness for college and future educational pursuits.
Who can participate in the ACT &SAT Prep Masterclass?
Students from IB and austrian schools grades 9 to 12 are welcome to take part in this course. The fact that students of different age participate in the same group does not matter, as ACT & SAT are not about subject-specific knowledge. ACT & SAT tests are like obsticle courses and students need to know certain strategies and possess specific test-taking skills to overcome these obsticles.

Which universities require ACT/SAT score as part of their admissions?
After the COVID-19 pandemic many university have removed the results of ACT or SAT tests as part of their admission criteria and are now test-optional. It means, that students are evaluated based on other merits, such as extracurricular activities, GPA, community involvement, etc. Presenting a ACT or SAT test result, however, creates an additional proof of a student’s readiness for college and college work. Furthermore, having ACT or SAT test results provides a means of comparison of students’ knwoledge in case their schools do not provide a GPA.
