What are PSAT tests?
The PSAT serves primarily as a practice test for the SAT, a college admissions test in the U.S.
Versions:
Are PSAT tests important?
Yes, PSAT test are important. Here are four main benefits of taking a PSAT test:
Practice for the SAT: The PSAT serves as a practice run for the SAT, one of the primary college admission tests in the United States. It gives students a feel for the test format, question types, and content areas, allowing them to identify areas of strength and weakness before they take the actual SAT.
National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT): The PSAT/NMSQT is used to determine eligibility and qualification for the National Merit Scholarship Program. High-performing students can earn recognition and even scholarship money for college based on their PSAT/NMSQT scores.
Feedback on Academic Skills: The PSAT score report provides detailed feedback on a student’s skills, helping them and their educators understand which areas may need additional focus or support in preparation for college.
College and Career Planning: Taking the PSAT can spur students to start thinking about their post-high school plans. The score report provides tools and resources for college and career exploration.
Access to College and Career Planning Tools: Through their PSAT scores, students get access to resources like “BigFuture” by College Board, which helps them in college and major selection, scholarship searches, and other aspects of college planning.
Who can participate in the PSAT Prep Course?
Students from IB and austrian schools grades 9 to 11 are welcome to take part in this course.Â
Which universities require PSAT score as part of their admissions?
No universities use the PSAT score directly for admissions decisions. The PSAT (Preliminary SAT) is primarily a preparatory exam for the SAT and is used to qualify students for the National Merit Scholarship Program in the U.S.
